For the first time in the world, a prototype of a pharmaceutical substance based on site-directed protein-nuclease technology has been developed in the Laboratory of Genetic Technologies and Translational Research of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "NMIC FPI" of the Ministry of Health of Russia. This new technology for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B could save the lives of millions of people. The unique substance makes it possible to destroy over 99% of viral genomes in infected cells within a few days, while it is safe and non-toxic. It is planned to create a drug based on it for the treatment of patients with chronic hepatitis B. At present, a complete cure for this disease is impossible. More than a million people die from hepatitis B worldwide every year.
